The shortness near the eyes and forehead is fine, but I feel like it's short until you get to the ears, and then the hair drops a few inches. Maybe it's just the picture? I don't know. I like a gradually angled layer. I would be so hesitant to make a big move like you are. But you're right.. the job opportunities up there are probably better, and if you love it, then a change is probably for the best. Leaving family behind would be my biggest concern, too.
