How appropriate this will be!
I’ve had personal, hands on experience on both sides of Bank Charges! As a customer, I’ve dealt with my previous bank charging so many different fees! I’ve only been on the receiving end of these fees a handful of times but that was more than enough for me! We had two separate checking accounts setup with our last bank and one savings account! They were supposed to be all tied together, though we would use the checking accounts for separate purposes! For instance, we’d use one for bills and everyday things and the second for purchases we may do online, like through ebay or with our paypal account! Our savings account was set up as an “Overdraft protection” plan, so that if we calculated something wrong, we’d still be in the good because the funds would be pulled from our savings account, into our checking account! I can remember several times where our second account was overdrawn and the bank kept charging US a fee! They paid the item that tried to clear then charged us $37 for them to clear it. Each day the account remained in the negative, we were charged $2! Eventually, it was around $45 in the hole by the time we got a statement of the accounts balance!
We quickly called the bank and asked them to explain what happened! Of course, their attitudes were as if this had all been our fault and we were told we should’ve been more responsible with our accounts and kept up with our spending! We kept our cool and explained to them that THEY were supposed to tie all of our accounts together to prevent all of this!
In the end, we were the ones who had to “fix” the issue! No matter how much we explained, they refused to see it from our side! If we’d originally had thought to set ourselves up with “Online banking”, we could’ve caught these errors a lot sooner and saved ourselves a few headaches and $’s! Our experience, to date, with online banking has been great! I find it a lot more convenient than phoning our bank or going there in person! We can also set ourselves up to pay the majority of our bills online!
This was also the bank I once worked for, so I can see things from both sides! We had a small branch located in the northern part of our town, which was primarily used by employees at the plants and factories in that area! That was also one of the poorer ends of town! After our bank decided to expand, they opened what is now known as “The Main Office”. This main office was located in the center of town! Shortly after opening, we were told the smaller office would be closing down because there was no longer a need! No longer a need? They had hundreds and hundreds of valuable customers there! From Monday - Friday, from open to close, this small branch was booming! There were days we had to call for help! “The Main Office” was also just as busy now, so the need was still there!
To this day, that has not changed! The bank cannot keep up with the business but spent so much money on this elaborate new office, that the customers in areas like our small branch were in, suffered!
