Anything else

To say he’s a shop-a-holic is an understatement.

New $1500 computer - check
New $100 desk - check
New $100 chair - check
New $80 gaming keyboard - check

Today he’s put in for another new chair. Nothing is wrong with the older new one. Nothing at all. I don’t need it, I have a new one. Oh wait, the current one hurts his elbows. Wahh. This is driving me nuts.

At this rate, I’ll never get my damn camera. And I won’t even tap the argument over Newfoundland. Ugh, I hate it here (not Newfoundland).

Hail rains down

For the last few minutes Jo and I kept hearing this awful racket off of the balcony. When we went to the window to see what it was, we realized it was hail. Not like little ice pellets but golf ball and baseball sized hail. There’s no cover over my truck (or any vehicle in the parking lot) so I guess mother nature is getting in some target practice out there. I can see a few dings from up here (4th floor) from the way the sun is shinning down on it. I just hope it hasn’t cracked any of the windows!

Driver pet peeves

Do you have driver pet peeves? Is there something drivers do that bugs the heck out of you? Where do “I” start with this one..

- Drivers who fail to use a turn signal. Seriously, is it so hard for you to signal when you’re about to make an abrupt turn? I’ve seen several accidents here that were caused by drivers who failed to signal.

- Drivers who can’t seem to put their cellphones down long enough to go from point A to point B. Several weeks back I was heading to get Jo from work when a driver who was talking on their cellphone wasn’t paying attention to the guy ahead of them, who was turning. Instead of breaking, they decided the best thing to do was to swerve into my lane. This literally sent me over the median, which nearly caused me to roll over (in an SUV). I’ve almost been hit by drivers who run red lights because they’re on their cellphones and not paying attention to the lights changing.

- Drivers who are in a hurry and think by riding up on my bumper is going to speed me up. Hardly. In fact, these drivers are more than likely going to piss me off to the point where I’ll slow down. If you are in that big of a hurry, leave the house earlier.

- Drivers who do not restrain children in a car seat. I cannot tell you how angry it makes me to see a toddler standing up in the front or backseat of a car. There’s no way that child is going to survive a high impact collision and these happen almost daily here.

- Drivers who refuse to let you merge. I cannot count the times I’ve run out of road before I was able to merge because of jerks like this.

What are yours?

Luxury home

It’s hard to imagine how some of the people here are able to afford a luxury home. Real estate is so expensive in this area! We were having brunch at a local restaurant and overheard a woman (who we assumed was a real estate agent) talking about some of the homes she’d recently shown to some of her clients. She was telling her friend about the monthly payments people will be looking to pay if they purchase these particular homes - upwards of $3,500 per month. I couldn’t imagine a) paying that much and b) being able to afford a payment so high. The sad thing is, these are likely the type of homes that would run about $700-900 per month back home (new homes).

That’s just crazy to me! Jo and I thought our last mortgage of $686 (which started out at $530 - thanks to taxes) was high. Which to us, it was because we were used to paying $450 in rent. The homes I’ve been checking out (online) near my in-laws, these homes are running around $100k, some being luxury homes. It’s amazing how the prices vary so much from one location to another.

I’m it

Toni has tagged me!

5 people who will be annoyed you tagged them.

- Manda
- Henny
- Ranee
- Lori
- Crissy

4 things that should go into room 101 and be removed from the face of the earth.

- Temperatures that exceed 85-89ºF
- All of this cat fur. Quick, someone toss me a razor!
- Some of the celebrities that our youth have to look up to.
- Diseases like Cancer, AIDS.. and the like.

3 things people do that make you want to shake them violently.

- My ex-boss’ inability to say “my” or “mine” - it was always “mineses”.
- Drivers who aren’t paying attention to the road because they’re yapping on their cell.
- Parents who do not watch their children.

2 things you find yourself moaning about.

- The heat. I hate being hot. I would rather freeze, thank you.
- Driving. I’ve gotten to the point where I hate doing it.

1 thing the above answers tell you about yourself.

- I have a low tolerance for the heat, most drivers and ignorant people. lol

Sore losers

It appears there’s a sore loser in the bunch of participants for the caption a childhood photo contest. Seriously, how pathetic? Are you that upset about losing that you send your friends here to comment? Grow up. The contest was meant for FUN. There’s no reason anyone should get their knickers in a bunch over it and if you do, that’s just sad.

Next time, save yourself the time and effort and just not participate because it’s really stupid to enter a contest that’s supposed to be fun and then get pissy if you don’t win.

The winner is

Edit; To “Les” (nineunknownmen)… Your comment will not be approved but just in response - we’ll have to agree to disagree. I just wonder who you are and why you felt the need to jump out of the woodworks to criticize the decision. It’s a shame people like you go out of your way to be negative over something that’s meant to be FUN.

Back on July 18th, I began a new contest - Caption a childhood photo. The deadline for submissions was July 26th and I must say, there was serious LOL going on! Thank you for the laughs, to everyone who participated.

After going through the submissions, I’ve picked a winner, with the assistance of my husband.

And the winner is…. Drum roll please….

Jade of Sweet-catastrophe.com.

Jade, I will be sending you an email shortly, congratulations!

Jo & his back

You may recall from recent entries, that Jo’s been having some back trouble. He’s seen the doctor twice now. He came home early from work yesterday because the pain became so unbearable, that he had to take one of his pills. Of course, after doing so he was unable to operate any equipment and they allowed him to come home. It didn’t count against him because he worked just past half the day. Well, I was just fixing to hop back into bed for a nap when the phone rang. It was Jo. He’s seeing the paramedic where he works, has been given the name of a new MD to see this week and is coming home early. Whatever he was moving today, was heavier than what he normally moves and after almost 2 hours of work, his back is worse off than it was before. He can’t bend over or stretch his arms above his head.

I hate it when he’s sick but especially when he’s down like this. It just seems like nothing makes him comfortable or eases the pain. I hope this new doctor is going to actually do something. Jo said the last one only visited with him for about 2 minutes each time. We should have expected this though, considering this doctor charges people for work excuses and that’s really what it seems like everyone was there for.. except Jo. sigh

Linkity link

I have spent the last week or so doing a lot of blog hopping. In doing so, I’ve found quite a few fabulous blogs that I’ve decided to not only give a little linky love to, but also add to my blogroll!

First, there’s Neptunebaby.com. I absolutely love the layout this site is sporting. It’s one of the cutest I’ve seen in a long, long time! The second the page loaded, I knew it was going straight to my blogroll and that it’d surely become a daily favorite! In a recent entry, Toni writes about starting a new job after 3 months of training! When she mentioned that it was pretty fast paced, it reminded me of when I used to work in the ER - like I commented, it made me think of the nights where I seriously thought I was in two places at once because it would be so dern busy! I think she’ll be able to keep up! Be sure to stop by because this is a great read!

Next we have Krississippi.com. When I read the domain name the first time, I thought “K - i - crooked letter - crooked letter…”, I thought it was such a cute domain name! She recently wrote about the passing of not one, but 3 of the family’s pet fish. It reminded me of when I thought the idea of owning “Beta fish” was a good idea. Sadly, they last about as long as a houseplant does for me (roughly a week). This another great read! Krissi also has a couple of other blogs - mykidney.com.blog where she documents life with kidney disease, dialysis and organ transplant, worldadopt.org where she blogs about the adoption of her son Alek from the Ukraine (I think Ranee is going to love this blog). Adoption is something my husband and I will eventually look to, since we’re unable to have our own children, so this is a fun and inspiring blog for me to read!

Next is Blue-bus. Like me, Stephanie enjoys photography and it shows. I was browsing through her flickr gallery earlier and all I have to say is WOW. She has some of the coolest self portraits. Jealousy is an understatement! She’s definitely got skills. She’s currently involved with the 365days group on flickr, which I really, really miss. She wrote an entry about Summer almost being gone, where she’s talking about sleeping trouble. I feel her pain. I’ve been struggling with the same thing for a few weeks.

Finally, blogsweluv.com, which is a project by my good friend Mike and his good friend Tish. It’s a fabulous project because they share unique blogs with their readers. Maybe you’ll even find your own blog has been “luved”! They’re participating in the 2007 Blogathon!

These are just a few of the recent blogs (there are quite a few more I will blog about tomorrow) I’ve stumbled on and felt I just had to share them with all of you! Be sure to check them all out. They’re all fun, interesting reads.

Why are you still here? Start blog-hopping!
