Window coverings

One of my favorite TV shows is Extreme Makeovers: Home Edition. I even watch the reruns. The show has always given me some great ideas for things I would like to see and do in my own home. They do such an awesome job on everything, even right down to the window coverings. Since watching the last show we watched, I have been trying to decide what kind of blinds I would like in our living room. I recently realized that Extreme Makeovers: Home Edition uses blinds from Selectblinds.com, so I decided to hop over there to see what I could find. Faux Wood Window Blinds are my number one choice, so that is the section I headed straight for. Well, as some of you may recall from previous entries, we plan to use white, khaki and chocolate colors in our living room. Well, as luck would have it, I found the perfect set of blinds. They are the 2″ Vogue wood blinds, which I would want in the mahogany shade.

If you are looking for new blinds, you really need to check them out. They have a great selection of blinds - faux wood, vertical, wood and mini. They also provide other window coverings like roller shades and even roman shades. I have already found several coverings that I will eventually have in my own home.

Weather

The weather here in Calgary is going to be so nice over the next few days. The temperatures will be dipping down into the 30’s (Fahrenheit) but will crawl up to about 60ºF. This is my kind of weather, the kind that I love. The sun will be shinning and there will be very few clouds.

Knowing my luck though, that will all change in the next day or two. As I have mentioned before, the weather here in Calgary flip flops a lot. I mean, just last week it was snowing. I will enjoy it while it lasts though.

I also hope the weather will be nice for our drive to Newfoundland. I will not mind a little shower here and there but I really hope our drive will be free of any kind of bad weather. As it stands right now, it looks like we will be spending our second night in Ottawa with some of Jo’s relatives. It should be really nice. These are relatives he has not seen in over 10 years and relatives that I have never even met.

I guess I should be calling it a night soon though. I really need to lay off of the caffeine again. It really makes me feel, well … gross.

Business loan

I find myself thinking about owning my own business someday. In fact, I plan to run a small photography studio within the next few years. I probably think about it too much. One thing I am working on at the moment is putting money aside. Of course, we have been putting money aside for a down payment on our home but I have also set up a small savings account to help supply my photography needs. Even with everything I do on my own in regards to providing for my own business, there may come a time when I need a financing.

For people like me, that is where Ezunsecured.com can help. Even without collateral (which would certainly help keep you resting well at night), financing is possible. Business Loan application processes can often be complex. Ezunsecured.com provides a great service with fast funding and best of all, the process is not going to be complex. In fact, it is easy, no matter what type of loan you are applying for - a business line of credit, regular business loan or even a credit card. They have been helping small business owners and entrepreneurs obtain capital since 2002.

If you are looking for financing for your own business, check them out at Ezunsecured.com.

New seasons

I am so excited about all of my shows coming back on. I have been looking forward to all of the new seasons for months, especially Law and Order SVU, Heroes and CSI (Las Vegas and Miami). We watched Heroes and CSI Miami tonight. Dancing with the stars is playing in the background right now but honestly, I am just not feeling any of the “stars” enough to watch this season. I hope they do an all stars event eventually. I would love to see Apollo and Emmitt again!

Jo took me to dinner tonight, to Montana’s Cookhouse. It was absolutely delicious. I am thinking about taking him to see Good Luck Chuck tomorrow. He is dying to see his girlfriend, Jessica Alba. Isn’t she everyone’s girlfriend? HAHA! It looks like a hilarious movie though, even I cannot wait to see it.

Well, we have a lot of the packing finished. I have one box packed up that I will ship to Jo’s mom’s Wednesday. It should be there by the time we get there, if not before. Even if it isn’t, it is basically things we are not using currently.

I should hop to it though. I need to work on a fix for this theme (for IE 6). I sort of want to pull my hair out now. HA!

Outdoor kitchens

When Jo and I buy our next home (a fixer upper, I’m sure), Jo’s said that he would love to have a nice outdoor barbecue area. His idea of “nice” would include a covered area with a grill, nice cabinets, counter space and likely a sitting area. Something like one of those outdoor kitchens. We plan to do a lot of outdoor entertaining, well, when weather permits it! One thing that will be a must is something that can withstand moisture. We will be living on the coast of Newfoundland and there are times when it can be really rainy, and of course there is the snow. Werever outdoor products uses a marine grade polymer, which will withstand moisture and other harsh environments. Their cabinets are not going to rot, crack, peel or even fade if they are exposed to things like the rain, sun, snow and even salt water.

I do not know about you, but I am sold!

Pink for October

I just realized that when I changed the link for the first Pink for October theme, I left out “.com”. Whoops. Fixed that. I am also going to re-list those themes in this entry.

#1) Pink for October 1

#2) Pink for October 2

Sorry about the error with the previous link. I had to change it due to server issues with the domain these files are hosted on. It is temporarily uploaded here, to Scribblescratch.com. Again, hope you enjoy them!

Goof-ups

I cannot believe, for the second time, that I have brought up “Tex Mex” cheese instead of my regular “cheddar & mozzarella”. I swore when it happened last time that I would pay more attention to the packages and labeling from then on. Apparently I did not hear myself.

We decided to have some parmesan pasta with shrimp scampi for dinner last night. I was in charge of the entire meal, which is fine because I love cooking this dish. Well, it was basically ruined because of the cheese. You see, I always add just a little cheese on top of the pasta before serving it. I started to notice little specks of red and for a second, thought someone was wrong with the cheese. But nope, it was me again. I had purchased the Tex Mex again. The meal was not ruined, thankfully, but it certainly had a little more kick to it than I had hoped! Poor Jo has had heartburn off and on for the last week or so. I felt really bad serving it to him but he said it did not bother him at all. I still wonder if he was just saying that.

I seriously wonder how many more times I am going to make this mistake?

Dell notebooks

Jo and I have 2 Dell desktop PCs between us. Over the last couple of months we have started to realize that we really need a laptop. This would come in handy when we are traveling, especially when we travel back to Georgia for “vacations”. Plus, it would give me something to do on that long ferry ride (about 7-8 hours long, depending on how rough the seas are). I was browsing through a Dell Notebook Shop (it is in German). I really love the Dell Inspiron™ 1501. It is exactly what I want, for an affordable price.

Jo and I love both of our Dell’s, one that we have had since 2001. I have no doubts about loving a Dell Notebook Computer. People have tried convincing me to buy other brand names, however, I will not budge. I know what I like and I like my Dell’s!

Decision

We have decided to find Bella a new home. Though my mother in law gave us the OK, we feel it will be best to only have one cat with us. It is going to be a big adjustment for them, people who have never had a cat (much less one inside 24/7). Jo has a cousin here in Calgary so we are going to give her a call tomorrow. She has 2 children, who I am positive will love Bella. Bella is so spunky, hyper, sweet and loves attention. While we give her everything she could need or want, with her being so young, we feel she will be a better match with loving little girls.

I really appreciate Karen giving us the OK but I honestly do not believe she put a lot of thought into it and I would hate for her to regret the decision (though I doubt she would but still). Bella is still a baby herself. She is only about 2 years old (maybe a little less). She is still in that “kitten” phase. Now Jynx on the other hand. We have had her for 5 years (almost) and she was over 2 years old when we got her. She can be a little grumpy at times, well, when Bella pesters her to play. lol. Jynx is also Jo’s first cat. There is just no way that we could part with Jynx and while I am not really happy about parting with Bella, I know she will be in great hands with Jo’s cousin.

I am just so ready to get on the road and get “home”.

Medical alert tags

I can remember a few of the most stressful nights I had working at one of the hospitals back home. One night we had a female patient come in, who was not in the position to communicate to us what her illness was or even what allergies she may have. I am sure you can imagine how stressful something like that can be. This really made me appreciate medical alert tags.

Medical Alert Tag provide health care professionals and emergency medics with important information about your illness or allergies. Several of my relatives have them, and that includes me. We have them for various reasons - myself and my mother, to let those in health care know our allergies (sulfa, penicillin) and for others, like a close aunt, is for providing information like what diseases or conditions she has (diabetes for instance).

This is honestly something I think people should have. At Americanmedical-id.com, they provide medical ideas in bracelets, necklaces and even medallions (to name a few), in stainless steel, sterling silver and gold. They also have a great line of men’s titanium medical tags. And considering how important they are and the information they provide, the prices are really affordable.

Yawn, yawn

Wow. I somehow managed to take a 4 hour nap today. I feel so exhausted right now. I think I could probably curl back up under the covers and sleep for another 4 or 5 hours. I knew the packing and cleaning would be exhausting but not this exhausting.

We have been doing laundry, sorting clothes into boxes we will have shipped via the mail and into boxes that will be going with us. Of course, we are also packing away odds and ends that we are not using right now too. I guess we should probably take the other office chair apart and pack it up in it’s box. We have decided we are not taking mine because it is way, way too large. It would take up way too much space. Which would be space we could use for other things. Besides, we are only going to be able to set up Jo’s computer right away, though I will be using it and his mom’s for my “work” type stuff and blogging. No biggie, really.

Random thought; I just caught a Philadelphia cream cheese commercial and it has left me craving a bagel with cream cheese.

Second round

So, I wonder if Britney (Spears) wound up in drug rehabilitation again? I remember reading some “gossip” that she was going. To be honest, I think that would be the best thing for her. She is obviously struggling and seems to be spiraling down pretty fast these days. If she loves her children (and herself) she will get the help she needs. Hopefully she will stay the full length this time and actually give it a chance. It is really sad to see her basically wasting away, especially when you think about the Britney from “before”, you know?

Cruising

Man, what I wouldn’t do for one of those caribbean cruises right now. I am so sore from sleeping awkward, not sleeping enough and of course, all of the cleaning and packing. I am so, so tired. I will be so happy when the packing is done, the moving is complete, the unpacking is done and I can kick my feet up and relax for awhile.

I am really looking forward to that. That and being around family and friends again. I am hoping to get my camera right away and take a few trips along the coast with Jo’s mom. Though I doubt that will happen right away. Like I said, I want some time to just relax for a few days.

Wordpress theme - October 2

I decided to work up another free, Pink for October theme for you guys. I hope you like it. It’s pretty simple, in white and pink with a tad of black. You can view it, along with my other themes on my themes page: WP Themes. If you just want to download it straight away, click here to download it from it’s temporary link (issues on the domain I upload these to). Screencap is below. I hope you enjoy it!

Work from home

Like many people, I have often toyed with the idea of starting a home business. It would definitely have a lot of perks (working in the comfort of my home, not having to travel miles and miles to work, saving on gas and wear and tear on a vehicle), plus it would be very convenient. The weather in Newfoundland can get pretty harsh during the winter months. This usually keeps families in their homes for a couple of days at the time. Working from home would mean I would not be out of a days pay simply because the weather prevented me from “making it in”. That is definitely a wonderful benefit to working at home, wouldn’t you say?

Since it is worth serious thought and consideration, I figured “Why not check out options”. I was searching through Directmatches.com, which has over 65,000 members and provides a business networking opportunity to it’s members. Want to try it out for free? Well, you can.
