Ouch

Earache. No fun.

Thank goodness my mother in law thought to pick up some ear drops after running a few errands this morning. She’s had a touch of one herself, which is why she thought to pick them up.

I guess I’m going to have to start plugging my ears when I shower and stop using q-tips again. Eh.

Sunset - 1-27-08

It might have been cold this evening, but the sunset sure was pretty. I should really consider waking up early enough for a sunrise shot sometime…

Overheard

You know, you really should consider your surroundings when you verbalize something. Especially if it’s something that others may find offensive.

The other day we were in the grocery store picking up a few things. I made my way down the canned food isle for canned tomatoes. It was there where I noticed two young guys (I’d say they were somewhere in their early twenties) conversing. I never would’ve imagined that I’d stumble into such a situation.. but as I made my way down the isle, I realized they were talking about some woman they “liked” (that’s putting it nicely people). One of the guys made an awfully disgusting comment regarding the woman’s rear end. Now I’ve heard comments about rear ends before but never anything like this - the guy said “Yeah, that’s a fine piece of real estate“. I could feel my eyes bulging from their sockets. I’m surprised they didn’t fall out onto the floor, that’s how shocked I was. I just wonder if people simply don’t care or if they just got lost in the conversation, perhaps just forgot where they were. Either way, it just amazes me.. the things people say. For the woman’s sake, I hope she’s never taken these guys up on any offers they may have given her. Eww.

So stuffy

There aren’t many chores that I hate. I know that must sound strange, who doesn’t hate chores in general? Me. The two I hate most; cleaning the bathroom (all areas.. just makes me cringe.. thank goodness for my husband) and vacuuming. Vacuuming wouldn’t be so bad if it weren’t for the sneezing fits it sends me into and the way it leaves me so dern stuffy. I suppose we should consider other vacuum cleaners, as opposed to the one we have and use. Unlike the bathroom though, I can actually tolerate vacuuming.

My mom loves vacuuming. One of very few people that I know who actually claim to enjoy it. Actually, let me rephrase that. My mom loves cleaning, period. It’s a little creepy at times because she can actually get pretty obsessive with it. A friend once asked if she had some kind of phobia that caused her to clean all the time but nope, I just think she enjoys it. I certainly don’t take after my mother in the cleaning department. OK, now I have a feeling you’re all gasping, wondering just how messy I let my living quarters get. Let me just put your worrying to rest — I’m not obsessive but I do enjoy a clean, tidy place so I assure you that my place stays that way.

Speaking of cleaning though, I really need to clean up my blogroll!

So, snow

It has snowed so much in the last couple of weeks that my Escape is nearly fully covered in this big blanket of snow. It never looked this bad before, even living in Calgary and having a couple of snow storms there. Ha! Thankfully we haven’t gotten much snow in the last day or so. It’s been fairly decent, other than the freezing temperatures of course (it’s currently -15ºC, burrr). The sun should hold up for the next 2 days too. Yippee! Maybe I’ll get a chance to venture out for photos.

Speaking of vehicles covered in snow.. this is what my Escape looks like right now. Ha,ha!

Long day

It has been a terribly long day. Well, yesterday was. It’s after 3am Newfoundland time.

First off I didn’t get much sleep. I woke up around 9am but didn’t actually get into bed until nearly 5am. Getting into bed didn’t mean falling to sleep right away, so it was at least a good 30 minutes before I finally wound down enough to relax and drift off to sleep. After getting up and having a bite to eat I decided to finish working on the site. After a few hours off and on, I decided I was satisfied enough with it. After finishing up with that I decided I should probably go ahead and upgrade my Wordpress. This is actually something I don’t recommend doing when you’re utterly exhausted and feeling as if you’re going to pass out at any given moment. Seriously. It was just like my brain shut down as I began doing the upgrade. Thank goodness I remembered to back up my database, themes and plugins. Shoo. It came in handy when I wiped out everything by accident and of course when I finally got everything back up it was like I forgot how to import my sql file. Whoops. Thankfully though, I was able to sort through everything.

When I finally got everything back up and running, I noticed I haven’t been having those database errors. I wonder what that’s all about? I’m not sure if it’s just from upgrading or if it was something with the slim-stat plugin that I decided to do away with. Either way I’m happy to see those errors go bye-bye.

This upgrade sure was a pest though. I can’t recall ever having so much difficulty upgrading, ever, as I did today. What a pain in the butt!

I guess I should probably get to bed soon. I’m exhausted and it’s nearly 3:30am. I have too much caffeine (pop) in my system though, something I’ve been trying to kick but have been failing at.. again. We played dice for about 2 hours. Not sure if that’s a “Newfie” thing or what.. but it was (is) fun, even if my mother in law and I didn’t win tonight!

I just wonder

My in-laws would probably laugh if I bring this up to them but I’ve been seriously pondering asking them if they’ve ever considered investing in an alarm system monitoring service. Not that it’s really that funny but because of this being such a small community, I’m sure they’d chuckle. My thing is though: there are a lot of valuables in this place. A lot. For a long time they didn’t actually lock their doors at night but when Jo and I moved in, checking to see if the doors are locked at night is something I do many nights before bed and when Jo and I dart out when no one is home. It might just be out of habit, considering the places we’ve recently lived in and all the stories you hear about break-ins and all. Even so, it’d be nice to not have to worry so much about the things we keep stored inside this house. It would take us awhile to be able to repurchase many of our things, in the event they were ever stolen and such.

I’m actually surprised though, that they haven’t done this already. This might be a small community outside of a small town but there are bad seeds everywhere that wouldn’t think twice about taking these things.
