It’s amazing how simple little things trigger the biggest memories. I can hear certain songs playing on the radio that remind me of relatives, friends, old boyfriends and just good times in general. Earlier today I was thumbing through one of several boxes we have in my in laws’ storage room and stumbled onto a couple of engraved plaques. One was actually mine, from my high school graduation and the other was my dad’s from his retirement - a congratulations on so many years of work for the state and such. It triggered memories of my dad making his own t-shirt to wear to his retirement party, which read “I’m retired, I don’t have to wear a tie”. Silly but if you knew my dad, it’s very fitting.
And once again I’m homesick.
