I have my laptop picked out and though I’m sad that the tablet notebook only had a 12″ display, I’m still excited about the one I’m getting. I was able to upgrade to 3gbs of ram, which was pretty neat. The only thing I’m not sure about is that it comes with Vista. I’ve heard so many horror stories about Vista (anyone using it, please offer your opinions), so I’m a little weary about it. Ah well, I’m sure it’ll be OK. Besides, I’m just grateful to be able to get this laptop - I’m definitely a “lucky” girl, who generally doesn’t have much luck at all. It’s something I’ve wanted, and somewhat needed for years now. It’ll be nice being able to use it in other areas of the house besides the “office.” It’ll also be nice having a laptop when we travel.
Jo’s sort of jealous that I’m getting laptop though. Why? I have no idea, I mean it isn’t like he didn’t get a new computer last Summer. A suped up computer at that!

I’ve used Vista since I bought my laptop in December, and I absolutely love it. I’ve had a few minor problems, sure, but no more than with XP.

I just entered Vista world last week when I got a new computer. My IT husband had said we would not go Vista because the computers (at that time) couldn’t push it. But now, they are better.
It takes a little getting used to, but I have been happy so far.
Congrats on the new purchase.

I’ve heard of people having problems with Vista when they tried to upgrade. Mostly that it used too much memory. But I bought a new computer after the New Year with Vista and haven’t had any problems.

When you get your laptop let me know how you like Vista.
I’ve heard mixed things about it as well.
The laptop I want comes with Vista so I’m hoping when that time comes it’ll be a smooth transition for me and there won’t be any issues with vista itself.

My husband’s laptop has Vista. When I use it, I like it. But I only use it for simple things like the internet or writing. I never use it for any sort of in depth program. But I actually enjoy it.

Yay for a new ‘puter! As for Vista I think those who complain the most are those who don’t understand computers much. It’s a brand new OS that unless it’s tested by millions of users, is going to have some bugs, XP was the demon from hell when it was first released but almost a decade with going on 3 service packs soon has made it “superior” for the PC side of things (not including linux lol)
Only Vista “issues” old hardware means you manually need to find the driver and old software may not work, and that has to do with THOSE companies rather than Microsoft.
Am I rambling? Still the majority of computers I repair are due to infections (limewire is a gateway to hell!) rather than true OS issues (that are unrelated to infection).

I’m totally not a Vista fan. My laptop is still in XP, and we got it before Vista came out, so we got an upgrade CD. I tried it for a few weeks and the darn thing kept crashing, certain programs wouldn’t work, etc. Granted, this was when Vista was still pretty new. Hopefully they’ve sorted the kinks out by now!

I got a new laptop the other week with Vista on it and I’m not impressed with it - it’s really slow to boot and open some programs up (like FireFox).
And having to confirm that you want to run an installer every time is a pain in the butt, but a good security feature I suppose.
I’m still tempted to rollback to XP Pro though. I’m just not diggin’ Vista!
