Back to school

It really boggles my mind that Summer seems to get shorter and shorter each year. For children that is. My nephews will be heading back to school on Monday. Every year since I’ve been out of school, the whole “back to school” thing brings back a flood of memories from my youth. You know, just remembering what it was like to prepare myself for my first day back to school after a Summer filled with no homework, sleeping in and playing until the sun went down. I never really hated school, or even going back, but I have to admit that I really did miss Summer during the school year.

Looking back, I can think of a number of things that would have made life so much easier on me. No doubt on my parents too! Like what, you ask? Well, for starters Color labels. You see, I have always collected pens and pencils. I cannot tell you how excited I got when it was time to go “back to school” shopping. That’s like the best time of year to find all the neat pens and pencils I grew to love. The only problem; I never came home with the same amount that I left with each morning. Usually it was due to my loaning my fabulously awesome to friends and classmates. Other times it was due to my dropping them between changing classes, on the bus or simply losing them. I can remember having a classmate steal my favorite pen in middle school. Of course i was a really shy back then and would never dare rat my classmate out (I knew what happened on the playground sometimes). I just imagine that classmates embarrassment had my pen been labeled, if I actually drew up the nerve to tell me teacher about it, and they were caught with it red-handed. Considering I was the only Teresa in the entire school (students and faculty), they would have had some explaining to do for sure!

With my sister dealing with 2 boys heading back to school, and another just starting - this would be a welcomed treat. Her youngest son cannot keep up with anything, so I imagine there will come a time when he misplaces his lunchbox or his backpack. Adding his name to his things with the DYMO label maker could possibly prevent those things from happening, or at least help in finding it!

For me, I could see myself using the DYMO label maker for all kinds of things in my home. I’ve been on a bit of an organizing kick these last couple of weeks. I would love to label all of the storage bins in the storage room. As it is, we must pull heavy boxes and bins from the shelves and open each one up until we find what we’re looking for. Even with them being divided by content! That would save a lot of stress on our backs from the lifting, as well as time that we spend rummaging through each bin.

Just imagine the possibilities. Labeling kitchen canisters, drawers and shelves. Labeling storage bins. Labeling your child’s lunchbox, backpack, school supplies, supporting equipment and toys. Everything has it’s place, and at least you’d be able to find it!
