The kinks

I want a massage chair. I’ve been waking up with kinks in my back and neck for a few weeks now, and I really think something like that would help work out those kinks. Besides, even if I didn’t have kinks in my neck and back, it would still be nice to enjoy a massage every once and a while. I can’t even recall the last time I had a good ol’ massage.

You know, I could’ve used a massage earlier this week when I was down with that pesky cold. I had the aches all over my body, in what felt like every joint, every bone, every muscle - just everywhere in general! I did change the shower head to the massaging one, which creates a constant, gentle beating of water. It actually felt nice against my back and neck.

Back to the massage chair though. I think I’ll go to the mall one day this weekend and give one of these suckers a try.

Martha Stewart flowers

Have you seen the Martha Stewart flowers and plants at 1800flowers.com? I’m such a fan of Martha Stewart. I love her show and really enjoy her collection of home decor, so I’m not surprised that I would wind up liking these new products. They’re perfect for all kinds of occasions: anniversary, birthday, new baby, I’m sorry and so many more.

I was just browsing through the “Just Because” section and found several that I would just like to have for my home. For example: Lotus Pod bouquet because I love those vibrant greens, and the White Freesia bouquet and Petite Garden bouquet because they’re soft and romantic - very shabby chic. They would look lovely on an end table, night stand or even as a center piece for a dining room table.

I’ll have to keep this in mind for Mother’s Day. After all, it’s not very far away and my mother loves her flowers. My mother would really love the Vibrant Ranunculus bouquet. She has this wild love for anything bold in color. This particular bouquet is right up her alley, she would love those bright shades of pink and orange.

Whether you’re looking for a bouquet or house plant to spruce up a special space in your home, or you’re looking for a little something to send to a loved one to let them know you care - the Marth Stewart collection at 1800flowers.com has something for everyone, for every occasion and then some. The next time you need to buy a bouquet, I’m sure you’ll find it there.

This was a paid review.

What do you think?

Just before we moved to Calgary last March, I found the most gorgeous comforter set at Wal-mart. I had every intention of getting it until Jo said it was too “country” for him. A part of me wanted to go ahead and buy it anyway but I didn’t want to cause an argument considering we were going to be hitting the road a couple of days later. Once we got to Calgary he said if I could find something like it, I could go ahead and buy it then. Sadly I never found anything like it at all, not that I actually expected too. On a few occasions my mom said she’d pick it up for me and ship to Calgary. I kept saying no, which was mostly because I knew we weren’t going to be in Calgary forever and I didn’t want to risk getting somewhere else and finding something better. I guess that wouldn’t have been so bad though, I’m notorious for changing things around in my home.

Well when I spoke to my mom the other day, I gave her the go ahead. She headed straight to Wal-mart and picked up the set shown in the picture to your left. Isn’t it gorgeous? I can’t wait to see what it looks like on my king sized sleigh bed (by Lane, from the urban country living collection), which my dad has been keeping for us! I think it’ll look gorgeous on that natural pine frame.

What do you think? There’s also another comforter set similar but in pink and green - sort of shabby chic looking. I may get it too, for the spare room.

Thankfully my parents decided to keep the majority of our furniture, which I believe is because they also knew we’d eventually be back in Georgia. I’m still a little annoyed that my dad got rid of our living room set but at the same time, that means I can get something completely different and new.

Apartment hunting

Though it’s a little stressful, I’ve really enjoyed searching for an apartment. I’ve already printed off several information sheets, so that when we get back to Georgia we can phone the managers up and set up a viewing. There are 2 apartments in particular that we really love, both are about a 10 minute drive to Tybee Island and a 10 minute drive to downtown Savannah. Even though I really wish we could find a place on Tybee that doesn’t cost a fortune, I’d be happy to live in this particular area. The thing I love the most about one of these apartments is the details throughout the apartment. It has gorgeous granite counters and stainless steel appliances (big plus) and the lighting in the dinning room is fabulous. It sort of reminds me the antique style Murray Feiss chandeliers. One of the other apartments has a two outside sitting areas. One is a decent sized patio off of the master bedroom, while the second is a screened in porch off of the living room. The screened in porch would be great, especially being near the ocean - think mosquitoes.

Can you tell I’m enjoying this? Ha, ha.

Has it happened to you?

I always seem to be the last person to have a shower, no matter where I’m at. It’s not always a bad thing, especially here because the water never goes cold. That being said, when I lived with my parents, it wasn’t this pleasant. In fact, the hot water always seems to go cold after the first shower of the day. I never had the chance to be the first, so my showers were always freezing cold. I doubt that’s changed either. My dad should seriously consider investing in one of those tankless water heaters.

My dad doesn’t like “change” though, so I doubt that’s ever going to happen. I mean, we are talking about a man who, for no reason at all, chooses to use dial up internet!

I just wonder

My in-laws would probably laugh if I bring this up to them but I’ve been seriously pondering asking them if they’ve ever considered investing in an alarm system monitoring service. Not that it’s really that funny but because of this being such a small community, I’m sure they’d chuckle. My thing is though: there are a lot of valuables in this place. A lot. For a long time they didn’t actually lock their doors at night but when Jo and I moved in, checking to see if the doors are locked at night is something I do many nights before bed and when Jo and I dart out when no one is home. It might just be out of habit, considering the places we’ve recently lived in and all the stories you hear about break-ins and all. Even so, it’d be nice to not have to worry so much about the things we keep stored inside this house. It would take us awhile to be able to repurchase many of our things, in the event they were ever stolen and such.

I’m actually surprised though, that they haven’t done this already. This might be a small community outside of a small town but there are bad seeds everywhere that wouldn’t think twice about taking these things.

Not missing them

There’s one thing (well, OK.. there are more) I really don’t miss about living in Georgia. Specifically in our old house. Every Summer we had to put up with pests like; spiders, bees and wasps. There were a few occasions where I would’ve much rather just camped out in the yard rather than have to battle my way indoors because of the wasp nests that were dangling from the back porch exterior lighting fixture. I’ve been stung more than once by those pesky buggers and while I’m not allergic to them (knock on wood), the stings are painful. Jo seemed to be the one dealing with that though, because he’d create such a racket trying to kill the things by doing things like spraying them with water. That just always seemed to rile them up that much more. You’d think after a few stings my husband would’ve learned his lesson though. Not the case. I tried telling him but he can be so stubborn sometimes.

I’ve never thought about asking my in-laws if they have to deal with anything like this. The only thing I can recall them mentioning regarding pests were flying ants… and I can’t remember what they actually call them, now that I think about it.

Lift it

I had no idea you could by a tv lift cabinet that’s multipurpose. I guess I have been living under a rock or something. I had no idea that they made those things with built in heaters / electric fireplaces. When the tv is stored away (aka hidden), it seriously looks like a real fireplace, complete with a mantle. Pretty snazzy considering you get that with the lift cabinet, and all that storage to boot. Something like that would be nice to have in the bedroom. I have always wanted a fireplace in my bedroom. Just to look at of course, I really would not want the heat from it because I much prefer to be cool at night. Heat + trying to sleep = a not so good combo for me.

Improvements

While Winter in Newfoundland seems to limit what one can do outdoors, there’s still a lot to do indoors - especially if you’re working on home improvements.

My in laws accomplish a lot of their home improvements and DIY projects during the Winter months. Last year they redid the floors in different parts of their home. This year it was a toss up between redoing the kitchen (entirely) or redoing the single bathroom. Feeling the bathroom wouldn’t take nearly as long, they opted for this and will get it underway in the coming weeks.

They’re hoping to accomplish a lot of cosmetic things like; the wall color and flooring. On the flip-side, they’re also hoping to install a new vanity. Vanities are a great way to add extra storage. They seriously need extra storage space and I think they’ll obtain that if they bring in a vanity. Currently they merely have a sink with one storage area below, which is rather small. By choosing to add a vanity they’ll not only achieve adding storage, they’ll also achieve adding nice, personal touch and combat the cosmetic aspect of it.

Premierevanities.com has a large selection of bathroom vanities, which isn’t much of a surprise considering they have the largest online vanity store with over 150 different bathroom and linen vanities to choose from. I love at that there are so many styles to choose from, especially considering that what one person loves, another may not. Since my in laws own an older home, it would be nice if that added a vanity that brings in the charm of “old” but the updated look of something a little more modern. Something like the Single Porcelain Bathroom Sink Vanity would look really nice in their bathroom.

I know of many people who feel like there’s no point in dressing up their bathroom space. I actually enjoy it and really don’t understand why anyone wouldn’t want to spruce up every inch of their home - especially the bathroom. When I’m looking for a nice place to unwind, I head to the bathroom for a bubble and in our old home, it was divine because the space was so relaxing and had my style to it.

If you’re preparing to make some improvements to your own bathroom whether for yourself or because you’re looking to add some value to a home you’re trying to sell (believe me, this is a big place to do that), how about considering adding a new bathroom vanity from Premiere Vanities.

Redoing the floors

My in laws are always redoing things in their house. Since we’ve moved in, they’ve been working on redoing the kitchen and just before we moved here they redid the living room floors. Now they’re actually talking about ripping up the carpeting in our bedroom and replacing it with hardwood floors similar to the ones in their living room. This would actually be a really nice change because the carpeting in that room is pretty old and horribly thin. It’s the only room in the house that hasn’t gotten any upgrades in the last 10 years and I actually have some ideas for the room myself, which I hope they will take into consideration. I think something like wood tiles would work really well in the room, especially in a light, warm color. Wood Tile would not only look nice but in browsing through the selection of new wood tiles at Anchorbaytile.com, I see it’s also affordable. Now I’m someone who loves patterns and textures, I feel like those things add a bit of character to a room so I am particularly fond of the “Harmony Wood Tile Herringbone” wood tiles. I’m not sure if my in laws would be into something like that but even so, Anchorbaytile.com has a great selection, so I’m sure they would be able to find something that suited the style they may have in mind for the room.

I think I’ll mention this the next time we’re brainstorming ideas about the room.
