Movie nights

I love movie nights, don’t you? We usually watch movies with the family a couple of nights each week. The last movie night we had was this past Sunday, when we watched 30 Days of Night. I didn’t think I’d like this movie at all because I’m not really into the Vampire type movies, though Interview With a Vampire was definitely an exception. I have to say though, I only decided to watch 30 Days of Night because Josh Hartnett is in it but the movie turned out to be way better than I expected. I definitely recommend it, though you should know it’s a little on the gory side so children shouldn’t watch it.

I think tonight will be a movie night for us too. There’s not much else for us to do considering it’s still snowing and the roads are a mess. Recommend a movie to me?

Also, you have about a day left to enter my contest so you better get cracking!

Movie night

Speaking of oldies.

It’s movie night (yeah, at 11pm) and I’m in the mood to watch some older movies. I was originally going to watch The Goonies (love it) or The Wizard of Oz (love it too) but I think I want to watch an older comedy. I think I’ll see if Jo’s mom has The Nutty Professor (the one with Eddie Murphy starring in it). That’s a movie that never gets old for me. The funny scenes crack me up just as much the last time as it did the first time. I think the funniest part is when they’re sitting around the table and someone brings up having their colon cleansed. Oh come on, you know you laughed at that part too. But seriously, I love it when the mom (which is also played by Eddie Murphy) starts clapping and saying “Hercules, Hercules”. My sister Nikki picks on me because I can do this scene so well (including the voice haha).

Yeah, I’m tired of action movies. I’m going to put in a request for a comedy tonight.

Bad taste

My husband is starting to prove to me that he has horribly bad taste in picking out movies for us to watch. Just a few days ago he picked out “Lady in the water” which was supposed to keep me entertained while he did a little WoWing. Oh no. I seriously wasted a nice portion of my day and life watching that. Well, not a day later did he pick out “Hot Rod”. Seriously, do not waste your money watching it. When we were watching the previews it seemed like a decent comedy. In a way it reminded me of Napoleon Dynamite in the preview, however, I was greatly disappointed that it was not.

He used to have such good taste in movies, he really did. My mother in law and I have been picking on him for the last few days about “Hot Rod”. It didn’t even turn out to be one of those movies that are so stupid they’re funny!

I think I’m going to just take away his movie picking rights.

Disburbia

We just finished watching Disturbia on Shaw’s video on demand. Jo’s been telling me I need to see it for awhile now. I finally caved but only because I wanted to see Shia Labeouf. It was a pretty good movie. Definitely better than I was expecting it to be but there were some parts I could have done without! I am sure it will eventually find it’s way to our DVD collection. Jo’s wanting to watch Fast Track (The Ex). I just cannot stand Zach Braff though, so I think I will just skip that one.

I am half tempted to make another attempt at watching Zodiac. I would just really hate to waste the money. I mean, my other attempts failed - I fell asleep both times within a matter of minutes. I have a feeling that the next time will be no different. Everyone says it is a great movie though, so I have no idea why I have so much trouble sitting through it.

For now though, I think I am just going to go relax in a nice bubble bath. I have not had a bubble bath in a really long time and since my back has been bothering me today, I think it would be the perfect thing for me.

Failed x 2

For the last two days, I have been trying to watch Zodiac. I have been dying to see this movie since seeing the preview. We missed it at the theater and now that it’s on Pay Per View and Video On Demand, I have no excuse not to watch it, right? Wrong, apparently. I rented it on VOD last night. About 20 minutes into it, I fell asleep. No worries though, I have 24 hours to watch it. This afternoon I decided to try and watch it again. This would be my second failed attempt at watching it. About 10 minutes into it, just past where I left off (fell asleep at), I fell asleep again. I woke up 3 hours later.

I guess it’s just not meant to be!

Yippee

Not only did I get to see Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink came on right behind it! How strange, but I am not complaining. Clueless is coming on in a little less than two hours. I cannot recall the last time I got to see that, so I may cave in and watch it. My husband is already objecting to that but he will be too involved with WoW to care that I am watching it, when it actually comes on. Haha!

Speaking of Jo. He has another session of physiotherapy tomorrow. He has been really sore most of the weekend and into today. We had plans to do eat out tonight but those fell through when he was too sore to even get dressed. One of the exercises they have him do involves the therapist placing their hands around Jo’s love handles (I bet he is cursing me silently, lol) and having him lean back until it hurts. He is barely able to lean back even a fourth of an inch before pain shoots through his back. I really hope this therapy is going to work. So far it has done nothing more but keep him in bed most of the day everyday.

I also wanted to make a quick note that I got an update on my grandmother. She is still with Hospice but has improved slightly since the last time I was updated. Though she is still very weak, her blood pressure has stabilized and (excuse me) her bowel movements have gone back to normal. They did warn though that if she began to have clots with her BM’s again, they might not be able to stop it. We are going to remain positive though!

In a mood

Edit; Now if that is not strange… I just turned the TV on and had the turned to the Diva network from last night and guess what?? Sixteen Candles is currently showing. Yes!

Do you ever get in one of those moods where all you want to do, all day long is watch movies - mainly older ones? I am currently in one of those moods. I am not sure if it is this cold/flu thing I have going on or what.

I really want to watch something like Sixteen Candles, Dirty Dancing, Beaches or Heathers (Jess would love to watch that with me too). Now if only I had those on DVD or by some off chance they were playing on TV. It is holiday but I still have my doubts that any of those will be on today. Ah well.

Nightmares

It was a bad idea to watch Snakes on a Plane before bed. I tossed and turned throughout the entire night, after not falling asleep until after 1am. I kept dreaming of snakes crawling in the bed, being bitten and even at one point being chased by a snake (that was actually kind of funny). Shudder. It’s gave me that creepy, crawly feeling - which is still with me.

I don’t know why I torture myself before bed like that. You’d be surprised at how often I do this.

One of the more creepy things that happened after watching a scary movie late at night - we watched The Amittyville Horror (the most recent film) and if you recall, something always happened at 3:15am. Well, just before shutting the TV that night, I rolled over to Jo and said “Wouldn’t it be funny if we woke up at 3:15am!” and he replied with “No that would be a little creepy..”.. I agreed. Well, low and behold. The clock struck 3:15am and we both woke up. Of course, I decided instead of trying to go back to sleep, I would turn on the TV to make that creepy feeling go away. Thank goodness The Goonies had just come on.

Swim, swammi, slippy

“Oh, yea. It’s right here - Samsonite!”

Any guesses? It’s a quote from one of the movies that I personally consider hilarious - Dumb and Dumber. Lloyd is trying to remember Mary’s (the woman he drives to the airport in the beginning of the movie) last name. Her last name was actually Swanson but when Harry notes that her last name may be on her Samsonite luggage (well, it was a briefcase). He takes a closer look at and sees the name “Samsonite” - this is one of the funny parts of the movie for me! I can remember watching this in the theater and having to cover my ears because the laughter was so loud.

We have this movie on DVD, maybe I should pop it into the player tonight!

Eye of the Dolphin

I have always been fascinated by dolphins. When I go to the beach, I get up extra early for sunrise because you can usually spot several of them following behind the shrimp boats coming back into the marina.

There’s a new movie out called Eye of the Dolphin - it’s about a young girl, Alyssa, who gets expelled from high school and is forced to live with her father. A feather is a dolphin researcher that doesn’t have the time for his unruly teenage girl. Unexpectedly, Alyssa forms a bond with an orphaned, wild dolphin and soon learns they can bring hope to the people of her new home.

You can view the movie trailer here or read more about the movie, dates and casts information by visiting the movie website - Eyeofthedolphin.net.

This should be a wonderful family movie. I hope I can convince Jo to go see it with me.

If you think you’ll make it out to see the movie, you may be interested in the chance to Win Free Movie Passes to Eye of the Dolphin.
