I told you

Remember when I said we were going to be getting another Winter storm? Boy, oh boy did we ever get one. We can’t even get out of the driveway right now there’s so much snow. It literally covers my mother in laws car. Her car is completely hidden in the driveway. The roads are just as bad too. There’s a guy out there now trying to bulldoze through it all, so I decided to take a picture of his struggles (lol).

And look at my poor Escape. Aww.

Like I said, we can’t even get out of the driveway. It looks like we’re stuck here at least until tomorrow, but knowing our luck it’ll be Sunday or later. Fun times. Anyone want to trade weather? Please?

Woohoo

Edit; I’m not so sure that what I took a picture of today, is an iceberg. I think the person that told us there were already icebergs at Twillingate, is a little… crazy. The water was still frozen for the most part. The trip wasn’t entirely wasted though, I did take pictures of whatever that was, just in the event it was an iceberg. I took a few other random shots around there, including one of a coast guard helicopter hovering in front of me, which was…. odd.

Icebergs in Twillingate. Heading out for pictures. It’s a gorgeous day, so I’m going to use it to my advantage. Hopefully, with any luck, I’ll have photos to share later.

Yay!

At Embree

I hope to get a chance to take more photos of this soon, before the ice thaws/melts. It’s really, really eerie feeling out there. Especially so in the Winter, on an overcast day like today.

There are many more shipwrecks in our area, so I’m going to try and shoot those too. Someday soon.

Can I get an “awww”

I thought it was awesome seeing whales in the harbour…

This is what was in the harbour this morning (taken by my father in law)…

ps; will announce the contest winner tomorrow!

Snow, snow, snow

Growing up in SE Georgia, snow wasn’t something we saw very often, especially as far south as we lived (about an hour from the Georgia/Florida line). I guess that’s where my fascination with the white stuff started because it’s like they say, you want what you can’t have. When we moved to Calgary and I actually had to drive in it the first few times, my love affair with it slowly began to die. It was only after moving to Newfoundland late last year that “we” rekindled our relationship, which is slowly turning to a love-hate kind of thing.

We’ve had 3 really nice days in the last few weeks, where the sun actually made an appearance and the cold wind didn’t send me running back inside where it’s warm. We’ve had a few Winter storms in those few weeks as well, though I actually didn’t know we were under the Winter storm warnings because I just assumed this kind of weather (heavy snow and wind) was just normal around these parts. What do I know? Most of the snow I actually saw growing up was nestled on top of a cone. It’s currently impossible to walk in our front yard. Well, I guess you could but then you’d be scooping snow out of your britches (gasp, did I really type that word?). I must admit though, it’s absolutely beautiful when it falls and it makes for beautiful scenery. I just wish there wasn’t so much of it on the ground, so that I could actually venture out into the woods or down onto the rocky beach. Sadly I don’t think I’ll be having that wish granted anytime soon.

I started off doing that whole Project365 thing but because I can’t always get outdoors and there’s not much indoors that I find interesting, I’ve sort of slacked off. I do take a lot of pictures though, several days a week.

Fun times..

Newfie skies = best

We’ve been having some really gorgeous sunsets the last couple of nights. I’m so glad I decided to charge my battery yesterday because when the sun started to set, the sky turned so many gorgeous, vivid colors. Of course I darted out as fast as I could to take a few shots before they faded into the darkness of night.

This was the first thing I saw when I walked out of the back door and stepped onto the deck. It looks down to the northern part of the harbour, though this particular view isn’t the best.

Potheads

No, I am not writing about those potheads. This is about what I saw in the harbor across from our front yard this morning. At first glance I thought they were dolphins but my father in law insisted they were pothead whales. I decided to look up a little information about them and he was right. What I saw was black pothead whales. They even jump up from the water, similar to how dolphins jump from the water. It was so awesome to see this this morning. I tried getting a few good shots but they were swimming so fast, in search of squid, that I could barely keep focused long enough to snap a shot. Plus it is freezing out today and I struggled with zooming in enough. Anyway. I thought I would share a photo.

Have I told you lately, that I love living here?

Beach photos

As promised, here are a couple of photos I took down on the beach yesterday afternoon.

One of many snails on the rocks & shells

Looking out to the rock islands

There are many, many more to go through. These are the first two I managed to open up a few minutes ago. I will go through the remaining 60 or so and post a few more later tonight. There may even be more, if the sun stays out because I plan to go back down there this afternoon!
